ORGANIZER/CO-HOST OF 2011 ASIA OD SUMMIT
The teaching at the Business School
of Hohai University can date back to the establishment of the
Hohai Engineering School in 1915. By 1927 the school was renamed
Hohai Engineering University with specializations in business
subjects. In 1979 business teaching was resumed and its name
changed to the East China School of Hydraulic Engineering. By 1983
a stream specializing in Project Management was established,
making it one of the earliest universities to teach business
subjects in China.
Hohai University’s Business
School sees “pursuing global knowledge and becoming business
elites” as its mission. The school, together with the faculty and
students, has been dedicating to growth and innovation by adopting
a development model that incorporates education, research,
advisory and training. Within this, good innovation along with
students and teachers working together has successfully turned the
school into one of the top business schools that integrates the
three mainstream disciplines of business administration,
management science and engineering and applied economics. The
establishment of the Post Doctorate R&D Base has increased the
school’s capability of cultivating a wide variety of degree
options at the doctorate, masters (including MBA and Master of
Engineering) and bachelor levels, as well as conducting cutting
edge scientific research and providing social service.
The school has seven streams
specializing in business, management, accounting, finance,
management science, information and project management and
economics. In addition, there are 12 research institutes
specializing in Hydro economics, strategic management, investment,
asset management, intellectual property, technological economics,
management science, project management, planning and decision
making, human resource management, industrial development and
information management and engineering philosophy and management
research. Further, there are 5 professional education, training
and advisory institutes, an MBA education center, Master of
engineering education center, international education center,
management and training center, Jiangsu Hohai management advisory
company, and many more education institutions and service
management institutes.
The school has 156 full-time
faculty members, including 101 teaching staff. Among these, there
are 22 senior lecturers and 35 associate lecturers. Half of the
lecturers have degrees from outside the university and/or doctoral
degrees. The school has a total of 4061 students, including 315
doctoral students, 556 postgraduate students, 898 part-time
graduate students ---527 MBA students, 317 students of Master of
Engineering (Graduate Candidate Test), 54 candidates pursuing
master degrees of university teachers and 2292 undergraduate
students.
The school has a complete
professional discipline system, including Business Administration,
management science and two postdoctoral research stations. It has
two technological and managerial economics, management science and
engineering award stations using the three level one subjects of
the economics masters degree, as well as the two level two
subjects of information science and resource and environmental
economics. Furthermore, it has 6 professional disciplines in
Business Administration, Project Management, Logistics Engineering
and Industrial Engineering. There are three major undergraduate
degrees and 16 subject areas. Within these, technological
economics and management is the major subject area in Jiangsu
Province and the country. Business Administration, Management
Engineering and Project Engineering are included as first level
subject areas in Jiangsu Province. “Jiangsu Regional Development
and Strategic Water Research Center” is Jiangsu Province’s major
Philosophical and Social science research institute (2007).
Jiangsu is the country’s major laboratory of “Water culture, water
resources and hydraulic engineering science”.
While training many types of
talents and different levels, the school has achieved great
success in scientific research. During the national holiday, the
school has spent 40 million Yuan on all types of research. It has
received two of the country’s natural science funds, four of the
country’s social science funds, and one education fund at the
doctoral level. At the provincial level, the school has received
10 technological projects. The school has published 40 monographs,
1200 papers, including three EI, SCI and ISTP papers and 300 CSSCI
papers. It has received 15 awards at the provincial level and
higher.
In the ministry of education’s
level one subject assessment, the Business School of Hohai
University was ranked 14th nationally (2003). In the discipline of
applied economics, the school was ranked 19th (2004) and in
Management science and engineering it was ranked 16th (2006).
