
Dr.
Worley holds a joint appointment as a Research Scientist at the
Center for Effective Organizations at the University of Southern
California’s Marshall School of Business and as an Associate
Professor at Pepperdine University. He is the former Director of
the Master of Science in Organization (MSOD) program at Pepperdine
University where he was awarded the Harriet and Charles Luckman
Distinguished Teaching Fellowship between 1995 and 2000. Dr. Worley
also has taught undergraduate and graduate courses at the University
of San Diego, University of Southern California, and Colorado State
University. He is past chair of the Academy of Management’s
Organization Development and Change Division.
Dr. Worley’s articles, book chapters, and books address
issues related to organization development, strategic change,
and organization design. His most recent book is Built to Change
(with Ed Lawler). In addition, he has co-authored Integrated Strategic
Change: How OD Builds Competitive Advantage in the respected Addison-Wesley’s
OD Series and Organization Development and Change, the leading
textbook on organization development. He has made a number of
presentations to scholarly and professional societies such as
the Academy of Management, the Strategic Planning Forum, Society
for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, the ODNetwork, and
the Conference Boards of the U.S. and Canada.
His consulting clients include organizations in high technology
(Microsoft, Oracle, Texas Instruments, Intel, Infonet); health
care (American Healthways, St. Joseph Health Care System, St.
Anthony Hospital System; The Hartford Financial Services Group);
the public sector (State of California Youth and Adult Corrections,
Canadian Broadcasting Company, Southern California Edison, City
of Los Angeles, City of Carlsbad) and manufacturing (Magma Copper
Company, Canadian Hunter Exploration, Ltd.). The primary focus
of his efforts in these organizations has been on strategy formulation
and implementation, organization design, and the longitudinal
evaluation of strategic change. His consulting activities are
complemented by more than fifteen years of management experience
in academic, for-profit, and government organizations.
Dr. Worley received his Ph.D. in strategic management from the
University of Southern California, an M.S. in organization development
from Pepperdine University, an M.S. in environmental psychology
from Colorado State University, and a B.S. from Westminster College.
He is a member of the Strategic Management Society, the Academy
of Management, NTL, and the Organization Development Network.
He lives with his wife and three children in San Juan Capistrano,
California.
