Socorro Y. T. Suarez is Managing Director of Corporate Transformation,
Inc., a consulting firm assisting business enterprises enhance organizational
effectiveness and competitive advantage through the performance
of strategic consulting service in organization development and
change management. She consults for the Top Philippine conglomerates,
namely: Ayala Group of Companies and San Miguel Corporation as well
as for Asian, European, and North American multinational companies
such as Maybank, SCA Hygiene, Avon, Wyeth Pharmaceutical, and Microsoft.
Ms. Suarez has been involved in human resource-related work in line,
staff, and consulting capacities for twenty five (25) years in reputable
business organizations. Prior to setting up a consulting practice,
she was Director of Organization Effectiveness Consulting of Watson
Wyatt Worldwide, where she performed strategic consulting as well
as served as a technical resource in the areas of organization development
and performance management for colleagues in the international arena.
She was Head of the Human Resources of Ayala Land, Inc., a subsidiary
of one of the largest and most progressive business conglomerates
in the Philippines. She gained broad exposure to various industries
through her employment with another multi-industry conglomerate,
A. Soriano Corporation, as Senior Asst. Vice President for Human
Resource Consulting & Organization Development. She was initiated
to consulting work as Consultant Psychologist of John Clements Consultants,
Inc. in Manila and as HR Development Associate of Honeywell, Inc.
in the U.S.A.
She has been tapped by various business, government, educational
institutions as well as HR-oriented consulting firms and professional
associations to perform external consulting work and to conduct
seminars/ workshops on topics related to Human Resource Management,
Leadership, Organization Development and Management of Change.
Ms. Suarez has assisted a broad range of industries, including
Banking, Consumer/Industrial Manufacturing & Marketing, Energy,
Hotel, Information Technology, Insurance, Mining, Petroleum, Pharmaceutical,
Ports Management, Real Estate, Retail, Semiconductor, Transportation,
Travel, Telecommunications, and Utilities. Of significance is
her heading the human resource due diligence team for the winning
bidders of two of the Philippines’ largest and most successful
privatization efforts – International Container Terminal
Services, Inc. (a partnership of A. Soriano Corporation, Razon
Group, and Sealand) and Manila Water Corporation (a partnership
of Ayala Corporation, Bechtel, and United Utilities).
Ms. Suarez completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology
and Guidance & Counseling from St. Scholastica’s College,
and graduated Summa Cum Laude, Valedictorian. Complementing this
academic achievement were Leadership Awards for managing curricular
and extracurricular student organizations. She pursued graduate
studies in Human Resource Management and Industrial Psychology
as a Rotary International Graduate Fellow. She earned her Master
of Arts degree in Industrial Relations / Management of Human Resources
from the University of Minnesota School of Management, U.S.A.,
and was elected to the International Honor Society of Phi Kappa
Phi. She attended a course on “Managing Organizational Change”
at the Wharton School of Management, University of Pennsylvania,
U.S.A., where she gained insights on the dynamics of corporate
culture change and leadership transition. Aided by advanced communication
and information technology, Ms. Suarez is currently pursuing her
doctorate in Organization Development through the scholar-practitioner
program of the Fielding Graduate University in Sta. Barbara, California.
She is an accredited Fellow in Personnel Management (FPM) of
the Personnel Management of the Philippines, and was the first
lady President of the Philippine Society for Training and Development
(PSTD).
At the personal level, Cor reminisces with excitement her participation
in competitive sports, as captain ball of her school’s basketball
varsity team and champion of various track & field events.
These days, she focuses on service to church and community through
sponsorship of marriage enrichment and family encounter seminars
as well as volunteer work for street children. She also finds
satisfaction in creative work through poetry writing, gardening,
and interior design projects as well as the retail of artworks
of struggling Filipino artists here and abroad. Cor has discovered
that fulfillment can only come from living a purpose-driven life
and squandering one’s self for others.
